Former English Language Fellow, Karen Francis, Launches Children's CASH Museum in Jamaica

Updated: Jan 9

Shortly after completing her Fellowship in Yaounde, Cameroon, Former English Language Fellow Karen Francis, returned to her island home of Jamaica and launched the Children’s CASH Museum Culture, Arts, Science, and HERStory (CASH).

The CASH Museum is kicking off its launch by hosting the International Stock Market Game Challenge. Karen's recent Zoom meeting explained how parents, students, and teachers can join or form an investment team.

Although the Mission of the Children's Museum is to use Jamaica’s landscape, herstory and culture as a starting point for African, and other indigenous cultures, to trace their ancestral and spiritual heritage, the Museums main purpose is to teach Jamaican children how to Think & Grow Rich. In addition to a space for showcasing relics of Rastafari, Maroon and Indigenous Peoples Herstory, the Museum will also serve as a business incubator for Jamaican children to practice the principles of entrepreneurship, international trade, stocks, and investments.

Karen's Business Cooperative members will mentor Stock Market Game (SMG) participants during Karen's weekly Zoom meetings.

The former Fellow will partner with CAMELTA (Cameroon English Literature Teachers Association to teacher English and African Culture using the platform she created with her Business Students at PKFokam Institute of Excellence https://www.pkfokamenglish.com/ .

The online platform, will enable students from across the world to communicate in English while competing in the challenge.

When the Stock Market Game  was used as a teaching modality for teaching Business English in Cameroon, Karen's students demonstrated significant improvement in English literacy.

The results of Karen's research was showcased during the Technology Enhanced Language Learning Conference & Career Fair that was held in Yaounde, Cameroon, January 2023.

“English is the language through which trade is conducted around the world and it is imperative that children not only learn how to use English to communicate socially, but they should also learn how to communicate using English for business and careers."

“If indigenous children are to rise to their fullest potential,” she concludes, “Business English must be a part of every student's educational journey.”

Parents, students and teachers interested in joining or forming an International Investment team can register below.
