‘Haitian Helping Hands’ Hurricane Beryl Clean-Up

Updated: Jul 17, 2024

Thousands of Jamaicans across the island, still without power and water after hurricane Beryl, are in desperate need of assistance.

🌴 Introducing ‘Haitian Helping Hands’ an English Immersion Internship! 🌴

In light of Hurricane Beryl's devastation and the anticipated hyperactive hurricane season, we have put together a dedicated crew of handymen, formed from Haitians who have recently obtained asylum in Jamaica.

High! I am Karen Francis returnee to Jamaica, English Teacher, U.S. English Language Fellow Alumni to Cameroon, Children’s Museum Director and VP (Cornwall) for the United Independent’s Congress of Jamaica, Jamaica’s 3rd Political Party.

I and several  of my colleagues from Cameroon are volunteering to teach English to Haitians newly arriving in Jamaica.

Their online English instruction will be delivered via the CASH Museum’s online teaching platform www.childrensCashMuseum.org

The immersive English language internship, will be provided under the guidance and supervision of the Cash Museum’s Instructors and Shaman Amin and Stoneman, who will be supported by members of Israel in Christ Church.

The ‘Haitian Helping Hands’ team will be providing hurricane cleanup services for Jamaicans across the island at No cost.

Residents needing cleanup assistance will ONLY be asked to cover the crew’s transportation, meals, and lodging if needed (if clean up is over 1 day); financial contribution for the cleanup crew or the museum is optional.

We are also establishing a food processing program in which the Haitian women, led by StoneMan, will be processing and dehydrating banana’s, arra root, sweet cassava and other locally grown foods and healing herbs that can be stored and used during and after emergencies.

The volunteer interns will need assistance with acquiring equipment, tools, protective gear, food dehydrators, coffee grinders laptops/computers, and starlink internet service to access their online English lessons.

Services Interns will offer include:

- Road Clearing:

- Yard Work:

- Property Cleanup:

~Handyman services

~Food processing and dehydrating
