The Mortimer Planno Writing Workshop A Pan-African Narrative Writing & AI Literacy Program for Diaspora Youth - Summer 2025

📘 Overview

The Mortimer Planno Writing Camp is a virtual, 6-week summer program that empowers youth (ages 15–25) across the African Diaspora to explore identity, civic engagement, and cultural pride through narrative writing, Pan-African themes, and ethical use of AI writing tools. Hosted by the Haile Selassie I MetaVersity, this workshop honors the legacy of Jamaican philosopher and Rastafari educator Mortimer Planno, whose teachings bridged Africa and the Caribbean.

This initiative builds English writing fluency, digital literacy, and global citizenship—amplifying the voices of youth often left out of traditional curriculum and diplomacy spaces. It aligns with AU Agenda 2063, U.S. Department of State youth diplomacy goals, and 4-H’s mission to develop leaders in service to community and culture.

• Develop English-language writing skills through personal narrative, poetry, and commentary

• Promote Pan-African unity, cultural storytelling, and civic reflection

• Introduce youth to AI-assisted writing tools with a focus on ethical use and creative independence

• Create a publishing pipeline for diaspora youth via the Rastafari Vibes E-zine and partner platforms
