FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Kingston, Jamaica — Community educator and international fellowship alumna Karen Francis, MEd, has officially launched the Trench Town Youth & Enterprise Development Initiative, a community-driven program designed to empower young people, strengthen local businesses, and promote business English development within Trench Town.
The initiative introduces three integrated programs:
a structured 4-H youth leadership club
the Trench Town Business Network & Cooperative
a practical English and Business Communication training program
Together, these components form a unified development model that prepares youth for leadership, equips entrepreneurs with tools for growth, and fosters collaboration across generations.
“This initiative is about building pathways for young people while strengthening the local economy,” said Francis. “When youth development and entrepreneurship grow together, the entire community rises.”
The launch coincides with the closing of Reggae Month and will culminate in a community activation event on February 28 from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM at the Trench Town Reading Center, where youth may enroll in leadership programming and local entrepreneurs may register to join the Trench Town Business Network. Members of the business network will receive promotional opportunities, public recognition, and access to training and mentorship support.
Francis, aka Empress Zaria, an experienced educator and curriculum specialist, previously served as a U.S. English Language Fellow, where she developed innovative learning programs integrating technology, project-based learning, and practical communication training. Her work focused on equipping learners with real-world skills applicable to education, employment, and entrepreneurship.
The Trench Town initiative builds upon that experience by bringing internationally informed educational practices into a community-centered model designed for long-term sustainability and measurable impact.
Organizers are inviting participation from community members, businesses, educators, alumni networks, and institutional partners interested in supporting youth development, entrepreneurship, and skills training.
Community members interested in participating may attend the February 28 initiative event or contact the program directly.
